Stuck in a Rut

Despite my great plans for this year, this year hasn’t been a good one for me. That being said as it’s coming to an end, I realize I’ve felt the best I have in quite sometime. Even compared to the beginning of the year, when I decided to start up this blog, and push myself out of my comfort zone, I wasn’t putting the most I could towards it. My newly found chipper attitude, I believe, is due to all the change (something I’m not a fan of) that’s been happening in my life, small and large.

The Little Things

I’ve had the same bedding for quite a few years now. It consisted of a black comforter and  whatever blanket and pillow that was clean at the time. It seems silly to think that something as simply as changing your bedding would have any impact on your mood.  My new bedding is much brighter, full of color, and makes the room feel more open and inviting. Which helps me keep a positive attitude when I’m in my room for long periods of time. Not to mention my Pikmin plushies now have a place in my room, so I’m happy about that. Little changes help just as much as the big ones!

Giving Myself a Schedule

Not only did I make myself a weekly to do list, I wrote up a daily to do list as well. For those of us that have a hard time, with daily tasks ( I know I do!), simple things like cleaning, showering, eating lunch, are helpful to list under the same time everyday. This way you get in the habit of things that are helpful to your day-to-day. Accomplishing the little things keeps you in a positive mindset and leaves you motivated to do more!

Volunteering

I recently started volunteering at the animal shelter near me. I don’t know about you but, a day in which I’m surrounded by a bunch of furry animals, is an amazing the day in my books. Helping socialize the animals, so that they’ll find a new home sooner definitely brightens up my day. If you’re feeling like you need a new hobby but can’t find one, or have too much free time on your hands, you might want to consider volunteering. You’ll be enjoying something you’re passionate about whilst keeping busy and providing a helping hand!

Hobbies

If you’re starting a new hobby, but find that you’re not very good at in the beginning, I strongly urge you to stick with it! If it’s something you loved, chances are you’ll probably love it even more once you’ve invested more than a couple of hours into it. I recently got back into sewing, and I’m loving it! Sure I still make mistakes, but hey that’s the best way to learn!

Exercise

I’m an exercise junkie! Unfortunately I’ve allowed other people to stir me away from it. People have told me that I need to gain weight because I’m too ‘thin’ or too ‘fit’. Suggesting that I’m not as attractive as women with a bit of chub and curves. Don’t get me started on body shaming thin women to promote curvy women, we’re supposed to be promoting all body times people! Come on now. Sadly, I was affected by this, and ended up gaining a bit of  weight and leaving my passion for exercise in the dust. And let me tell you, my mood sure did plummet. So what should we learn from this? Fuck what other people think of you, if you want to be fit be fit, if you enjoy having a softer belly, then good for you. Do what  makes you happy. If someone feels the need to change you, they’re not worth your time. So on a more positive note… I’ve started exercising again, and am two weeks into the Insanity program! My sister and I tried to complete Insanity for time and time again. We always get right there, were just about to finish it, and then bam something comes up. I have a ton of before progress pictures, but there’s no after pictures in sight. This time it will happen, and I will get my Insanity shirt!

So if you’re anything like me, you probably hate change, and avoid it all costs. But, maybe we’ve got it all wrong, maybe change is exactly what we need. Even if it’s just the little changes like your room decor, or your appearance. Figure out what needs a revamp in your life, and embrace whatever change comes along with it!
